Mad Night's Friday night gig at Room 5

Friday night Bear and I got to go to Room 5 in Hollywood and listen to Mad Night play. It was a packed house standing room only. Of course we brought along our gear and started shooting as they were JAMMIN on stage. This is a very cool place because while checking out Room 5's website I saw that Tracy Chapman had even played there.

Well Maura was totally amazing! (as always) and the guys did a killer job too.

Bear and I had such a great time last week with Maura, Michael and Neil of "MAD NIGHT". Just hanging with the band as they rehearsed their line up of song. Bear and I both really loved ALL the songs that Maura sang, her voice is just amazing. If you every get a chance to go see them live I highly recommend it because "MAD NIGHT" is well worth your time and money.

"Comfort Kitchen Project"

Well, it sure has been a while since I have updated this BLOG of mine, so let me tell you what I am doing these days.

On Mother's Day my family and I went to the movies to see "The Soloist".
While watching this wonderful true story there was a scene that showed a man standing in the back of his truck handing out containers of food to people.
I leaned over to my husband and said "I want to do that" then continued on watching the movie. I said no more about it to anyone but for the next week I could not stop thinking about what I could make to feed about 50 to 100 people out of my own kitchen.

See I love to cook so I thought why don't I do something to help by sharing my love of cooking and feed the homeless here in my area. So I thought okay I am going to put this up on my Facebook and see what my friends think about this. I wanted to see if I was crazy for trying to do this. And to my totally amazement within mere minutes I had several friends start offering money towards my project and offering time to help me make this happen. I was nearly in tears, I could not believe how so many people wanted to help and donate to make this project of mine really happen.

So Here I am today with a menu and $595.00 donated so far.

I am planning to make this happen on June 27th. I will shop for all the things I need for my menu and start cooking on Friday June 26th so that I can finish up and deliver the food by about 4 p.m. Saturday June 27th to the homeless, handing it out of the back of my truck.

Kenny's 1st Birthday

Kenny’s 1st birthday party was so amazing!
He knew that today was his day! He relished all the attention and love that he received from all his family and friends that attended his wonderful celebration!

He had 4 different outfits that he changed in and out of through the evening and NOT once did he fuss about any of it. He is one of the happiest babies I have every photographed.

I hope you enjoy seeing this amazing little man as he enjoys he special day.

Micah at 7 Months

Well I have to say that Micah is really growing up!
He is nearly walking now and BOY does he keep his parents busy chasing him around!

I was able to capture him playing with is toys and we even got him into his Halloween costume a little early.
His parents have a wonderful sense of humor and instead of making him a pumpkin like most people they had him be a hot dog.

My favorite photo is of him looking down at his lap with great concern about the size of the hot dog! HA HA HA !!

Oklahoma City Photo Walk

My good friend Robert “Dixie” Trawick of Trawick Images invited me out to Okalahoma City to participate in a Photo Walk Class that he was teaching. I was all over the opportunity to go and visit Dixie and his family (wife Irene and daughter Amber). This was the first time I had the honor of meeting Dixie's daughter Amber, who I am now known as “Auntie Jess” (long story about my name but it is a nickname I have had for years). She loves cooking and that is my # 1 love right beside Photography.

On the Photo Walk there were a couple of SUPER CUTE 12 year old girls at one of the locations. Sarah and Aalyiah and they were just AWESOME! I had a absolutely great time hanging with the girls and Aalyiah's mom Jade. I also had the honor of them sitting next to me when we all met up for dinner in Bricktown after the walk was over.

I am looking forward to another chance to work with these young ladies on my next trip out to OKC!

Once again the honor was mine to join Chef Daniel of Flavors with Love at the FN MTV party with Pete Wentz. There was lots of delicious food as always made by Chef Daniel and his staff. One of the great perks of working for a Chef is trying so much tantalizing, unique and totally fresh food. Since I have been working with Chef Daniel I have learned how to improve on my own cooking and have expanded the foods that I am willing to enjoy

Sequoia Road Trip '08

On the Road again with my Mom!
Mom and I love road trips! We are always trying to plan them when I have time to get away from the office and other responsibilities. For me its fun driving places and seeing new things and trying new foods and most of all having the time to be with my Mom and sharing my creative process as I do landscape and nature photography. My Mom has always been such a great force in my life! She has always supported me in my life choices even when she was not sure how I would survive. But thank God! and my amazing Mother I have made it 42 years so far.

Here are some photos from our Road Trip. This was extra special because Mom had never been to the Sequoia or Kings Canyon National Park so it was special for us to share this together.

The first day of our road trip we went into Sequoia National Park and came across a total of 3 bears. The first was about 6 to 8 months old I am guessing and was alone grubbing on a falling tree near the restrooms, the next two was a baby bear about 4 to 6 months old with his quite large mother, I am guessing she was about 250 pounds plus. The Baby was at the roadside and the mother was about 20 to 30 yards from him. A group of cars had stopped. So we stopped too, leaving Mom in the car and grabbing my camera to run after the baby and photograph him. Not before I located his mother and made sure not to be between them, I know as a Mom myself and I have heard many stories the last place you want to be is between a Mom and her baby.

The rest of the folks seemed to think it was okay to be so close to the baby with no worries about his Mama. Well I have seen enough movies to know better, I stayed away from the rest of the CRAZY people and place myself in a much safer position.

The last photo is of the windy road that you have to take to get into The Sequoia’s. I had to take a photo of it for my husband “Bear” and my oldest son Josh who love to drive fast on really windy roads. Mom and I just kept say how they would be having a great time on that road with Josh’s Subaru STI.

Rooftop Party at Hollywood & Vine

Another great night of amazing food created my Chef Daniel of Flavors With Love. This was a first for me shooting a event on the rooftop of a building on the corner of Hollywood Blvd. and Vine. The decorations were done by Create a Scene and the music was done by DJ Phyz Ed. Everyone loved the music being played by DJ Phyz Ed. The guests and hostesses were really enjoying themselves with all the great food, decorations, music and a incredible view of the city.

Micah at 5 months

It was an afternoon of fun with little Micah! I showed up just as he was waling up from his morning nap and I spent about an hour with this amazing little boy as he woke up happy and playful. Being a Mom myself I can see what a wonderful job Lori & Ed are doing raising Micah. He is so well behaved and such a happy baby.

Yesterday I got to meet a very amazing 12 year old girl.
No! I am not kidding she really is 12 years old, I asked her Mother.
Being the short person that I am I had to use a step latter.

Anyway I had a absolutely awesome time working with Patricia.
Her make up was done by "Ogie", he is just the BEST!!
As you can see it was just perfect not to much for a young lady.

This world is a very small place -
Let me just say how small, this young lady found me on the internet because we are in the same city. I can understand looking for someone that is close to where you are but this is crazy! She lives directly behind my apartment on the next street.
That is so wild that we could have just walked outside and talked. You never know where your clients will come from.

Latin Rose Magazine Models

I had the great pleasure to meet and work with Kathy, Anna and Jennifer. They are the new faces of the Latin Rose Magazine, which will be coming out soon. These young ladies were so much fun to work with! Ogie did their make up for the shoot. Ogie is just AWESOME!! I had the best time working with Ogie, he was totally professional and created a beautiful look for each of the ladies. Here are a few of my favorites of the Ladies.

At the end of our shoot the ladies told me what a great time that they had and they didn’t know it could be so much fun. That is what this photographer’s goal is for every shoot. I want it to be lots of fun and something that you would enjoy doing again and again.

I felt so honored to have received such a great complement.

Huang Family Portraits

Sunday We had the greatest time visiting the entire Huang Family, Sun, Jennifer, Yvonne, Jen, Jean and little Kenny. Kenny is just about 8 months now and is the cutest little baby. On a side note: One day I just might have a grandchild that cute too. See Yvonne is my son Joshua's girlfriend of nearly 6 years.
Anyway my husband/assistant Craig better known as "Bear" and I spent the afternoon capturing the beauty of this amazingly strong and devoted family. Sun is the head of the family and a wonderful example of what a Father/Grandpa should be. Jennifer is of course a very loving and doting Mother/Grandma. Jen and Jean are totally in love with their wonderful little boy and are just awesome parents. Well what can I say about Yvonne. . . I just love her to bits and she is perfect in every-way!

This weekend I was up in beautiful Santa Barbara with my good friend Ricky Mia. I went up to be a 2nd shooter for him at Dawn & Brian's Wedding at the Natural History Museum. I had a awesome time hanging out with my sister Nancy Mae this afternoon. We stopped by this great little park near my house. Nancy Mae told me she was a bit nervous about taking photographs and she wasn't sure how to pose. So I told her we are just going to chat and I will click away, no need to pose and feel nervous. We were at the park for abut 45 minutes to an hour just chatting away, she felt good about what we got so off to the office we went we narrowed our
34 favorites down to just 5 for the purpose she need them for.

Chef Daniel ~ Flavor's With Love

I have been working with Chef Daniel of Flavors With Love since last year. It's been so great getting to know him and watch him create amazing foods.

Let me say it's brought the inner chef out in me too. The flavors he puts together are so unique. Chef Daniel has introduced me to so many new flavors and just a completely higher level of culinary excellence that I have never had.

Chef Daniel is truly putting his love of foods and cooking into his food. Here a few images I took of Chef Daniel you can tell by his warm smile how much he loves what he does. He lights up when he talks about food and the new flavors he creates to share with others.

Mark's Amazing Bead Work

Boudoir Shoot at Palms Casino Resort with Brittney Palmer

While in Las Vegas for the annual Wedding Portrait Photographer International WPPI Convention & Trade Show I had the opportunity to participate in a Boudoir photo shoot hosted by Pixels 2 Canvas, After Shutter and Flo Sites at the amazing Palms Casino Resort in the Celebrity Suite. One of our subjects was the stunningly beautiful "X"Burlesque dancer and model Brittney Palmer of Las Vegas. Brittney kept all our cameras working overtime capturing her amazing eyes and flawless skin. She was a good sport dealing with all of us photographing her so many hours and a true pleasure to work with.

Vine Bar Party

I got to photograph a Birthday party that Chef Daniel of Flavors with Love was catering, and got to meet some really great people. Marjorie Goldman was celebrating her husband Larry's birthday at the Vine Bar in Hollywood. They had this amazing jazz band there playing. Ethan on the Bass, Tommy on the Drums and Marty on the keyboard.

Tammy & Spooky Dan Slideshow

This was the most unique weddings I have ever photographed. Tammy and Spooky Dan were married at the Houdini Mansion in Hollywood, CA. The mansion was so incredible, it would take you at least a weekend to truly be able to see it all. It has so many levels and yes that does mean a lot of stairs! But the good thing is my legs are looking much slimmer since the wedding. HA HA! Tammy and Spooky Dan's family and friends we all so great! It was awesome to see so many there to celebrate their totally Gothic union!.

They had corpses sitting in chairs greeting the guests as they arrived, skulls for centerpieces, Guitar Hero set up for all to play on the big screen TV, body parts in the pool, Frankenstein and his bride were on the cake and what made the cake even more unique was. . .it was created by Spooky Dan's Mom!

I had to add that Spooky Dan's Grandma was just too cute, she really got into the whole Gothic wedding thing also and wore all black to the wedding. NOW HOW COOL IS THAT!!!

Okay, I can't seem to come up with the words to explain how much fun I had shooting Tammy and Spooky Dan's wedding, which was held at the Houdini Mansion in the hollywood Hills. Tammy, Dan and their wedding coordinator Tiffani Sullivan really did an amazing job making this a truly spectacular Gothic wedding. Every detail was covered, the location, decorations, lighting, music, food and of course the totally awesome wedding cake made by Spooky Dan's Mom.

Tummy Face

My dear friends Lori & Ed are having a baby, their first child this coming January and I had the honor and great pleasure to be invited to their last 3D ultrasound. Now mind you when I had kids we had nothing like that. This was so TOTALLY COOL to see and be a part of. Lori and Ed are going to be wonderful parents with a great sense of humor as you can see by the special drawing that they put on Lori's tummy prior to the ultrasound.

Lori and Ed I wish you all the best with the arrival of your beautiful baby boy this coming January! I will definitely will be here if you need a babysitter or anything at all.

Yesterday I had the great pleasure of going to Chef Daniel's kitchen and watching he and his staff prepare a wonderful Asian lunch. The wonderful aromas that were filling the kitchen were just amazing. I only wish my images could pass on the amazing smells and flavors that he puts into his food. His company name is rightfully named "Flavors with Love".

Hoover High vs South Pasadena 9/14/07

The Hoover High Tornadoes really did a great job last week! South Pasadena was a tough competitor, but that didn't stop our Tornadoes from giving it their all and more. The game was so exciting for Bear (my husband) and I. We were allowed down on the side lines for just about the whole game! That totally ROCKED!!

Hoover High vs Golden Valley 9/7/07

Well This is the first game of the session for Hoover where my son Michael "#66" plays football. When I was young I use to play football with the guys in our neighborhood so you can only imagine how proud I am that my son is playing football at the same High School I went too! GO TORNADOES!!!

Here are a few images from the game last Friday, all the guys played really well and I am proud of them all!! The team is playing again tonight. They will be playing against South Pasadena.

My Brother Scott was in town recently so we all got together at Castaways in Burbank for a awesome lunch! My sister Nancy Mae and her son (my nephew) Garrett also were there. I can't believe how much he has grown up. This year he turned 3 years old. It seems just like yesterday I was at the hospital watching him come into the world. The handsome redhead is MY BABY! Well, my oldest son, Josh and the beautiful young lady next to him is his wonderful girlfriend Yvonne. Scott is the one with the Ramones tattoo on his arm and the good looking young man next to him is my youngest son Michael, who plays Football for his High School! GO NUMBER 66!!

A little while back I went down to the LA County Museum of Science with my good friend Joe and a few of his co-workers. the Star Wars exhibit was there and I figured since as a child I went to see Star Wars the original 13 times at the Manns Chinese Theatre in Hollywood that I should go and enjoy al the super cool things that they had on display.

Here are a few images from my day at the Museum, I hope you enjoy looking back to 1977 as much as I did.

I captured a few unsuspecting kids as they played with one of the displays, I just love to watch kids interact with things.

Katelyn's 3rd Birthday

I got to be apart of Katelyn's BIG DAY! I just love watching little one interact with each other and the way certain things just keep them busy for the longest time. The little boy sitting in front of the bubble machine was totally thrilled with just having the bubbles float by him for something like 15 minutes before he needed to move on to something new.

Let me just say watching these little ones try and get the hot dogs in their hands and their mouths was just to cute.

Kimi's 40th Birthday

It was my great pleasure of shooting my best friend Kimi's 40th birthday party. We have been friends for going on 31 years this year. I have watched her grow up and start her own family and now I also photograph her two children, Austin and Katelyn. Her children call me "Auntie Camera" because every time they see me there is a camera in my face. It was a great afternoon and tons of great food that her husband Kirk made for us all to enjoy.

I had the honor of photographing Lori's Bridal Shower out in Castaic. It was a wonderful afternoon of Family, Friends and laughter. Lori's best friend Roxy hosted this amazing shower at her home and let me just say the food that she had served was out of this world.

Lori is a very special person and I learned that even more by all the love that was shown to her on this very special day.

Well On the 4th of July I told my husband "Bear" if he would stay home from work I would model for him so he could practice his portrait photography. I hate being the model but I was determined to have him have a day off his hard job and enjoy doing photography together even if it meant I had to be the model.

I have to admit that these are probably some of the best photos I have had taken of me. It was fun to watch him work from the other side of the camera for a change.

A Fun Day at UCSD with Yvonne

A couple of weeks ago I got to take graduation photos for my oldest son Josh's girlfriend Yvonne at UCSD! I knew that we would have a great time hanging out and doing photography, so I invited a very dear friend who is a extremely talented photographer. . . RICKY MIA.

I just want to thank Ricky for coming all the way down to Sand Diego to shoot with us.

We had a totally great time, Yvonne, Josh Heather and Andy were so much fun to phtoograph. We went to several locations on the UCSD campus then we finished the day up down in La Jolla on the beach.

After a HUGH BBQ meal at Rick Mia's house Kashina and Andre got the full star treatment with 6 photographers photographing them all around Santa Barbara. There was Ricky, Dia, Alvin, Carlo, Bear (my husband) and me. This was one of the greatest days I had spent in a long time and it was so perfect because Every single person that was apart of this day were some of the nicest people people I have ever had the pleasure of photography with.

My Weight Loss

As most of you know, that have known me for more then 2 years, I had Gastric Bypass surgery April 27, 2005. My top weight was 335 lbs. and my current weight that I am holding at is 155lbs. That is a loss of 180 lbs. I am currently half the woman I use to be and I feel GREAT!!

Having this surgery was the greatest gift I could have given myself. I feel so much more alive and able to do so much more. My ability to do more wild photography is far greater now that I can walk, hike and climb further and faster then before. Plus I can breath much better now then I used to.

My love of nature and photography are even more intertwined then before. Now I can go deeper into the wild then I could before. I am so blessed to have had the chance to start live over at 38 when I had the surgery and now at nearly 41 I feel better then I did when I was 21 years old.

Below are a few photos that I came across last night on the computer, so you can see where I came from and where I am now. I hope you enjoy a look at the old me and the new me.

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year! I hope that your New Years was a wonderful one, spent with family and friends. We spent a quite evening at home watching TV and having our traditional Taco Salad dinner that we have been having for the last 4 years now.

We took off on New Years day and drove up to Santa Barbara and had dinner at Brophy Bros and also did a little photography while we were there too.

Right now we are working on some updates for our websites (fine art, portraits and weddings) I hope that you will all enjoy the new things we have planned.

This evening I got the call I new was coming and thought I was ready for it. I was told that between 4 and 5 pm this evening my Grandfather Roy Bundick passed away in Grass Valley, California he was 84 years old.

My Grandfather made a huge difference in my life. He was not only my Grandfather but he was like a Father to me also. My love for the great outdoors and for photography came from him. I will dedicate my first calendar and book to him and his wonderful wife Joan Bundick. Joan is a incredibly strong woman who has loved my Grandfather for more then 30 years. It is my honor and pleasure to have her as my Step Grandmother.

Grandpa, may you find peace on the other side and enjoy the great vistas that God has created for you to enjoy. I hope to see you on top of Mount Whitney this next year.

I love you and will miss you so much, but I will look for you every time I am out in nature photographing what you taught me to love and care for so long ago.

Today I decided to pick up a couple books and start reading a little everyday. On David Jay's site he had recommended some books, so of course I went out and got them. I am currently readying "A Purpose Driven Life" and "The E Myth Revisited" I will keep you updated on what I think of them.

So far I have read one chapter in The Purpose Driven Life and looks like it will make me have to really look at my life and how I am living it. (not a bad thing)

I just picked up The E Myth Revisited and am only on the first page so I will have to get back to you on this one.

Today I start my Christmas baking. I will be spending the next few days baking, pumpkin bread, rice krispy squares, homemade fudge with almonds and sugar cookies, plus my Mom and Sister are making almond mounds, cranberry orange bread and oatmeal date bars. There should be more then enough goodies for everyone to enjoy.

I love Christmas time! It is always so great to spend time with family and friends. Some of my most cherished memories of my childhood are those of Christmas. We always had a open house on Christmas day for so that everyone could come by and have a little something to eat and share the joy of Christmas with us.

I hope that for each of you, that your Christmas is filled with love, laughter, family and friends and that your tummies are filled with great food.

Today I found myself at Samy's Camera Store down on Fairfax. As my good friend Dixie Trawick would say, "You were shopping at the Mecca of Camera stores" Samy's is a great place and especially since it is a no tax weekend sale. As you can see I had a GREAT time shopping. I have a Nikkor 18 - 200 mm lens on order, I hopefully will be able to pick that up by Wednesday. Then I will be out testing it out of course!
